The Alaskan Malamute Week
Särna February 2003

We were still living in Denmark and this was our first time attending an official sledge dog competition in Sweden. We have had the idea that we wanted to try to pass the Swedish Polar Working Dog Test 1 with 4 of the dogs out of the first litter we had at Kennel Black Lotus. We hoped that the basic training we were able to give the dogs in Denmark would be sufficient to pass the test. We spent the week in Särna and had the change to do some training sessions on snow before the competition started Friday morning. The first day the dogs did pretty well, but unfortunately all 4 of them had caught a stomach chill so they sure did not have the same energy on Saturday. True teamwork succeeded in a total time for both days within the time limit and our 4-dogteam passed the working test.
